In the C19th, businessmen were quick to take advantage of the explosion in production and technology developed during what was known as the Industrial Revolution. The players each represent one of these businessmen, striving to maximise their returns by investing in factories, ports and railway lines and taking advantage of Contracts offered by towns and ports.
